"Classic Ghosts" at New Brighton Floral Pavilion
THIS two play production has the "S" factor - it's slick, spooky and superb.
One of the country's greatest actors, Jack Shepherd, is joined by a brilliant cast including Terence Hardiman and Dicken Ashworth.
The wonderful double bill of ghostly tales is a dramatic delight and judging by the gasps from the audience, it hit all the right nerves.
When you have work from two literary greats performed by a versatile, stellar cast, you cannot fail.
First up was "Oh, Whistle and I'll Come" by M R James a master storytellery. The atmospheric build up in a seaside hotel builds up to a terrifying crescendo.
The second adaptation, The Signalman by Charles Dickens, is a haunting story inspired by a real 19th Century train cash.
Dickens was of course famous for spirited tales. Michael Lunney directs and has created two breathtaking sets the first the Globe Hotel, in 1907, and for the Signalman a lonely signal box next to an isolated stretch of line and tunnel entrance.
Special effects are stunning throughout the two hours.
The Middle Ground Theatre Companyfeel at home in this sparkling venue, and are returning to the Pavilion in the Autumn.
Classic Ghosts is a first-class piece of theatre. And Jack Shepherd is as dynamic as ever.
