A STILLBIRTH networking group providing support for bereaved parents and their families is being introduced at Wirral Women and Children’s Hospital.

Launching on Saturday, February 28, the group will offer anyone affected by the death of a baby born asleep the chance to talk to other mums and dads.

Midwife Heather Lennox works closely with bereaved families. She was able to offer support to 26-year-old Nicola Almond and her husband Kenny, from Eastham, when they lost their 28-week-old daughter Madison less than eight months after their 21-week-old son Leon Kenneth was also stillborn.

“Having one stillbirth is emotional enough, but having two brings with it greater heartache and pain," said Nicola.

"Heather and the midwifery team were so supportive to me and my family.

“Having this new support group will really help other local families as it gives us all the chance to open up and talk.”

Nicky Abernethy lives in Fazakerley. Her son Steven had a heart defect and was born asleep in February 2013. Nicky hopes other families will have the confidence to join her at the support group.

She said: “I don’t mind talking about Steven as it keeps his memory going strong. Losing a child at birth is a very hard path to endure, but being able to talk to other people who have been through this pain really does help.”

If you would like to be part of this new networking group, simply turn up to Wirral Women and Children’s Hospital between 10.00am and noon on Saturday, February 28.
