GARLANDS nightclub is to remain closed for three months after police claims that Class A drugs were freely available at the premises.
Merseyside Police applied for the closure order at Liverpool and Knowsley Magistrates Court yesterday.
After hearing submissions from police and representatives of the club, District Judge Richard Clancy ordered the club to be closed for a period of three months.
Dozens of Garlands supporters demonstrated outside the court.
The Eberle Street venue has been closed since a police raid involving around 140 officers took place shortly after midnight last Thursday following an undercover operation.
Chief Supt Jon Ward said: "Sadly, we have been given no option but to take this action.
"While recognising that Garlands is well-known within the city, no premises is above the law."
Garlands can appeal to Liverpool Crown Court within 21 days.
