The long-awaited completion of the Saughall Massie bypass at Heron Road in Meols could in line for cash from the Government.
Westminter boosted money available to the Local Enterprise Partnership by £31.6m- on top of £232m already committed for schemes across Wirral and Liverpool.
The Heron Road project is now listed as a "candidate scheme" for the work to be carried out.
Wirral West MP Esther McVey welcomed the extra cash and called on the LEP to use the extra money to complete work at the gridlocked junction in her constituency.
"I am determined to keep up the pressure - residents have waited for 30 years and, throughout that time, traffic has increased.
"It is not acceptable that such an important route in Wirral is left half finished," she said.
In December, cities and growth minister Greg Clark met with Ms McVey and residents and heard first-hand how the problem had been ignored by successive Governments.
Ms McVey added: "I'm delighted that Heron Road has now been recognised as a 'candidate scheme' by the Local Enterprise Partnership and that they have listened to the views of myself and my constituents.
"That’s the first hurdle crossed, now we must ensure this work is included in the final scheme, as part of the £260m we're investing in Wirral and Liverpool."
