A WIRRAL secondary school will play host to the BBC’s flagship political debate show later this year.

Hundreds of thousands of listeners are expected to tune in to Radio 4 on March 13 to hear Any Questions? – broadcast live from Wirral Grammar School for Girls.

Although the show’s panellists will not be revealed until next month, headteacher Elaine Cogan said she is absolutely delighted that her students will have the chance to take part in the debate, chaired by presenter Jonathan Dimbleby.

Mrs Cogan said: “I wrote to them asking if we could host and I was delighted that they said yes – it’s a great privilege to have Radio 4 and Jonathan Dimbleby at the school.”

Wirral Grammar School for Girls has a strong cohort of history and politics students, as well as boasting a strong debate team itself.

“The girls are really keen to come to the event and ask questions if they can,” said Mrs Cogan.

“We want to try and get a breadth of audience there with different beliefs and that sort of thing.”

Any Questions? will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 4 at 8pm on Friday, March 13, before being repeated on Saturday at 1.10pm.

Each week the show – which was first broadcast in October 1948 – visits a different part of the country with a diverse panel of four speaks who answer questions from the audience.

The programme provides the opportunity for people to challenge leading politicians, policy makers, writers and thinkers.
