Birkenhead Park

. . . 15ptsBeverley. . . 28ptsBIRKENHEAD Park failed in their latest North One match against second-placed Beverley at a fog bound Upper Park, on Saturday.

Viewing was difficult for the crowd with visibility limited to half the pitch, but the fog did not completely hide a disappointing Park display.

Park opened brightly but visiting scrum-half Ian Archibald opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a penalty. The first try did not come until the 36th minute when prop Karl Smith crossed in the corner. Beverley added a second try soon after through flanker James Craig. Ben MacPhearson kept Park in touch with a penalty just on half-time.

Archibald kicked another penalty on the resumption, but Park's Jon Brennand broke away from his own half to score a try under the posts to close the gap to 18-10. Park then had a good period of attacking play, but they spurned a penalty chance and Beverley managed to clear the danger.

The visitors made the game safe with a third try from hooker Shaun Cross, but to their credit Park kept going and they had the final say with a try by prop Steve Clarke from a forward drive.

Park have no game this week, but the following week they travel to Altrincham Kersal.
