NEW Ferry must be regenerated if it is to meet its full potential, according to the town’s MP.

Wirral South MP Alison McGovern told the Globe the area has seen a decline in recent years, something she hopes to change.

She said: “I have spoken to my constituents about New Ferry on many occasions and we agree  that it has a lot going for it but regeneration is needed to meet its full potential.

“Local people tell me that over time New Ferry has seen a decline in the thriving place that it once was but there is a great amount of will in the area for New Ferry to flourish.

“Since being elected I have continued to push for regeneration to take place and I have been involved in many positive discussions so far with the local authority and businesses. I have also chaired the New Ferry Town Team to discuss the issues key to New Ferry’s development.”

New Ferry is home to successful small businesses including the national award winning Edge and Son Butchers, as well as being host to the popular New Ferry Farmers Market.

Ms McGovern added: “Steps such as the Christmas lights along New Chester Road have been well received by local people who say they have given the area a boost and it is this success that we must build on.

“Cuts have hit our local authority but I want to reassure people who live and visit New Ferry that in 2015, I will continue in my efforts to regenerate the local area.”
