PATROLS have been stepped up close to a Wirral primary school after an eight-year-old boy was followed home.
The schoolboy had been walking through an alleyway on the Beechwood estate, close to St Oswald’s Avenue, when he noticed a man wearing a dark hooded coat behind him.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said the eight-year-old’s mum had reported the incident to the police, after he was left terrified.
The man is not believed to have approached him or spoken to him and the boy was unhurt.
The spokesman said: “The man is described as possibly in his 20s and is believed to have been wearing a black coat with hood and black trousers.”
Patrols have since been stepped up in the area to reassure the local community and officers are continuing to work with schools to offer “stranger danger” advice to pupils.
“People are encouraged to report any suspicious circumstances or incidents to the police so that officers can look into them,” added the spokesman.
Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
