DETECTIVES investigating a New Year’s Day attack which left a Wirral man in hospital with a serious eye injury have arrested a 17-year-old man.
Police were called to Observatory Road in Prenton at around 2.20am on January 1 after receiving reports from North West Ambulance Service that a 25-year-old man had been seriously injured.
The man was taken to hospital with what police have described as “serious facial injuries”, including a cut to his left eye.
He remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Officers at the scene carried out a search of the area, with a 17-year-old male arrested a short time later on suspicion of assault.
He was questioned by police before being bailed pending further enquiries.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “Officers believe both men may have been involved in an altercation on Hoylake Road prior to the emergency services being called.”
Enquiries are ongoing in the area.
Anyone who witnessed the assault or has any other information should call Wirral CID on 0151 777 2262 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
