AN inspirational exhibition featuring photos and artwork from Haiti is coming to Wirral this month to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the devastating earthquake.

The photo exhibition, created by international development charity Christian Aid, will be launched at Hoylake Chapel on Station Road on January 18.

The event, which starts at 3pm, will be free and open to all and will feature a talk from Naomi Pinder, who visited the projects featured in the exhibition.

In “I Witness”, visitors will see some of the extraordinary work that Christian Aid is supporting through its partner organisations In Haiti.

It will also give visitors the chance to meet some of the inspirational people who are rebuilding their lives following the earthquake in 2010 and subsequent hurricane that battered the country in 2012.

Ruth Tormey, Christian Aid Legacy Officer for the North said: “I'm delighted to be taking this exhibition to Hoylake Chapel. I hope that lots of people will take the opportunity to learn more about our work in Haiti.”

Terrible images of the earthquake’s destruction and poverty it left behind hit the headlines in 2010, but the new exhibition focuses on stories of hope and resilience.

Christian Aid has been in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, for many years and opened their office in the capital Port-au-Prince in 1997.

‘I Witness’ came out of a visit by three Christian Aid supporters to Haiti last year, who saw for themselves how their gifts and legacies are making a difference.
