A WIRRAL teenager has marched out on parade at HMS Raleigh after completing the first phase of his Royal Navy training.

Ryan Flynn arrived at the Royal Navy training base in Cornwall in October. During a 10-week course he learned skills that he will rely upon throughout his time in the service. The course culminates with the passing-out-parade attended by families and friends.

The 17-year-old, a former pupil of The Mosslands School and Sixth Form College, was assessed as PT Superior during training and awarded for the recruit who maintained the best kit.

He said: "I joined the Royal Navy for a career where I would be able to see the world. I wanted to be challenged both physically and mentally.

"The training was hard but I enjoyed every challenge and obstacle we were given. I am now looking forward to the next stage of training."

With the first phase of his training complete Ryan is heading off to HMS Collingwood in Hampshire for his professional course.

There, during a three month course, he will learn how to set-up and operate the systems that give the ship information about what is on the surface and in the air.

Ryan will also learn how to detect and report radar jamming and learn about data links and voice radio circuits to pass on vital information to the ship's command team and others.
