A MAN has died after he was hit by a train at New Brighton.
Commuters were put on replacement buses following the incident, which happened at around 9pm on Thursday.
In a tweet shortly after 9pm, Merseyrail said: "Due to a person hit by a train at New Brighton the New Brighton line is blocked.
"Train services to New Brighton may be terminated at and started back from Birkenhead North."
A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Our officers were called to the line close to New Brighton station, Merseyside, shortly before 9pm on Thursday, December 11, after a report that a person had been struck by a train.
“Colleagues from Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service also attended, and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Officers are currently working to identify the man and inform his family.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
