A FREE Santa’s Grotto will be held at Birkenhead Community Fire Station this weekend as part of a festive open day.

The seasonal family event at the station on Exmouth Street is being held on Saturday, December 13 from 11am to 3pm.

It has been organised by Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service in partnership with the Stronger Communities Initiative Assembly (SCIA).

Families are invited to bring children along to see Father Christmas and enjoy a range of activities.

Children’s activities will also be part of the free event.

Fire safety and road safety advice will also be given at the free Christmas fun day.

Wirral district prevention manager Jenny Welsh said: “We want lots of children to come along and see Father Christmas at the event.

"The event will include a display of fire engines and equipment used by the Fire and Rescue Service for a variety of incidents, road safety information, partner information stalls, a Santa’s grotto, children’s activities and refreshments. It’s going to be a great day.

“It will also be nice for people to come and have a look at the new fire station.

“There will be lots of free activities for children to enjoy and everyone is welcome to come along.

“We will also be offering advice on how to stay safe from fire over the Christmas period.”
