TRANMERE Rovers' boss Micky Adams says his squad need to show determination and spirit in their League Two home game against Portsmouth this weekend.

Rovers go into the game in 23rd on the table with a home record of one win, four draws and four defeats at Prenton Park this season.

Portsmouth come to Wirral in tenth place in the division on the back of a 3-0 win over Morecambe. On the road this season Andy Awford's team have won one, drawn three and lost five.

During a press conference at the club, Adams said: "We know where we are and we know what we've got to do.

"We've got to pick ourselves up and get on with it.

"You can't feel sorry for yourself, I don't see too many people in the league worrying about what Tranmere are doing. It's all about us.

"There's no hiding place, that's the message to the players this week. I want to see strong characters.

"They've had a busy week on the training ground, they've not had a day off.

"That's not a punishment, that's me saying we've got to work through our problems.

"When I was a player I was taught that if things aren't going particularly well on a match to match basis then you get yourself on the training ground and double your efforts. That's what we've done this week.

"They say every team reflects the character of the manager, well I'm a determined guy and I want my players to show that determination and spirit on Saturday."

Meanwhile, Adams could be without Peter Brezovan for the game after the goalkeeper picked up a back problem.

He added: "Peter Brezovan is probably the biggest doubt with a stiff back which isn't a good scenario for a goalkeeper.

"While Owain Fon Williams was disappointed at being left out last Saturday, he's shown a fantastic attitude in training and I've got no doubts that if Peter doesn't make it that Fon will step straight back in as he would normally."

Micky Adams could be without Peter Brezovan for Saturday's home game against Portsmouth with the keeper a doubt due to a stiff back.

George Donnelly is available after completing his three match suspension, but Matt Hill (Achilles tendon), Liam Davies (knee) and Josh Thompson (hamstring) all miss out because of injury.
