FIVE people were arrested in Wallasey on suspicion of burglary following a tip-off from a member of the public.
Police were called at around 3pm on Wednesday, after a gang of men were seen garden-hopping on Rake Lane, Liscard.
Officers found two men climbing out of a window of a nearby property.
Both were detained following a chase.
Further inquiries identified three others who were also arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Police carried out searches at several addresses and recovered goods believed to have been from recent burglaries in the area.
Detective Inspector Paul Parry from Wirral CID said: "In response to a recent spate of burglaries, we have stepped up patrols in the area and been asking residents to be extra vigilant.
"The public are our eyes and ears and it’s thanks to this individual that we’ve manage to arrest these individuals.”
Four men aged between 16 and 18, and an 18-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of burglary and remain in police custody for questioning.
