THE family of a man who died from lung disease helped organise a Big Breakfast fundraising event for the British Lung Foundation.

Firefighter Roy Stewart organised the event with family members Sherina Conway and Mandy Green, whose father, Prem Neermul, died in February last year.

It was one of many national BLF Big Breakfast events organised to raise funds for the charity and awareness of the disease.

Firefighters from Green Watch and Red Watch rustled up a breakfast in the kitchen of Birkenhead fire station for people in the community who came along to support the event.

Local businesses in the area also donated food and supplies for the breakfast, which raised around £1,000 for the charity.

Roy said: "It was a massive success on the day thanks to the firefighters who cooked breakfast and to everyone who turned up.

"I would like to thank Tulip Foods and Priory Meats in particular for supplying our food free of charge and we also received donations from fire-fighters across the service , Iceland, Asda, Bookers and Tesco as well as other local organisations.

"We also ran a fire awareness campaign through our prevention team based at Wallasey and a smoking cessation campaign on the same day at the station.

"The event was a great success and we would like to thank everybody that donated to this worthy cause.”
