THE family of a Wirral boy fighting cancer organised a Christmas fair that raised more than £3,000 for Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

Joseph Cole, from Bebington, was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year and has undergone treatment at Alder Hey, leading to days at a time away from home.

But four-year-old Joseph's time in hospital was made easier thanks to the staff and consultants on the Oncology ward, who made sure his family were around him at every opportunity.

To say thank you, the family held a Christmas fair at Sacred Heart Church in Moreton on Saturday, December 6.

Hundreds attended, helping raise £2367.27p. Barclays Bank showed its support by donating £1,000, taking the final figure to £3367.27p.

There was a whole host of games for people of all ages to enjoy, as well as a visit from Santa Claus himself.

There was also a tombola and raffle, with prizes donated by Wirral businesses.

Mum Dawn said: "We wanted to give something back and say thank you to Alder Hey's oncology unit because they have been really gret to us since Joseph was diagnosed.

"We just wanted as many people as possible to come to the fair to help us raise as much money as we can.

"We want to say thank you to everyone who donated, particlarly those around the Moreton Cross area, and to the public for their fantastic support. We couldn't have raised as much as we have without you.

"Thanks also to Sacred Heart Church for letting us use the venue free-of-charge for the event and to Father Christmas for coming along."
