A WIRRAL student has been awarded the prestigious title of 'Commodore' at the Bridgewater Motor Boat Club in Runcorn.

It is a great honour to be nominated Commodore – the title for any officer assigned to command more than one ship at a time - but an even greater achievement for Georgia Barratt who has been named the youngest Commodore in the country.

To mark the occasion, the year 10 student at Weatherhead School in Wallasey, hosted a special celebration lunch at the Bridgewater Motor Boat Club, along with her family, who are long standing members of the club.

Georgia has worked very hard in her spare time this year organising and fund raising for the boat club and cruises, including hosting charity dinners and entertainment events.

Other duties have involved organising six cruises, attending regional meetings to feed back new developments to members of her club, and promoting information about the North West canal system.

Assistant headteacher, Lesley Bainbridge, who attended the celebratory lunch said: "This has been a very special occasion and Weatherhead is very proud of Georgia's achievement.

"Georgia has clearly developed key skills which will prepare her well for her future education and career.

"Throughout the lunch she showed her ability to organise and lead a large team of people to ensure the smooth running of the event and she was very confident and articulate when giving her speech to the group.

"We all wish her well in her role as Commodore and I am sure she will be great inspiration to many of our students at Weatherhead."
