TRANMERE Rovers' manager Micky Adams hopes a week of uninterrupted training will pay off when the squad face Stevenage at Prenton Park this weekend.

Rovers had two games within the first six days of the manager taking charge, but they’ll go into Saturday’s home match against Stevenage on the back of a full week on the training ground.

During a press conference at the club, Adams said: "It's been good getting to know everybody. I must confess, the first week or so, Baggie was the only player I knew and I’d worked with.

"I've had to make apologies to them that I might not get it all right in the early stages but I’ll gradually get to know each and every one of them.

"I took in the reserve game on Tuesday so I’ve been getting to know some of the youth players and the lads who I’ve not seen play for the first team. It’s been a useful week and I have to say they’ve worked really hard.

“They’re a credit, they’ve worked hard and I've not heard any complaints. They've got on and done their job and that’s a credit not only to them but to the last regime as well."

Adams expects Stevenage to provide tough opposition on Saturday but is confident his side can pick up a result.

He added: "You know what you’re going to get from a Graham Westley side and that’s not being disrespectful. I mean they’ll be hard opponents, they’ll be individually tough and well organised.

"I think they will come here and want to dampen the enthusiasm we’ve got back in the last two games. What I want to see from my players is to keep their confidence and the belief in themselves and show everybody what we’re all about.

"It's our home game and the onus is always on the home side to entertain and create. But what we want to do is be disciplined with the way we go about our business and not leave ourselves wide open, play with your heads and not your hearts.

"If we can do that and get our better players on the ball we’ll be ok I’m sure."

A statue honouring former Rovers' manager Johnny King will be revealed at Prenton Park on Saturday ahead of the club's League Two match against Stevenage.

Last year King, 81, accompanied his family to see the maquette of the statue. It is hoped he will be able to attend Saturday's unveiling, which takes place at midday.
