A WIRRAL teenager has been crowned the winner of an international talent competition.

Bronnie Hughes, from Caldy, was hand-picked by American Idol presenter Ryan Seacrest to take part in the latest round of his Covers Competition, which has seen her battle it out on YouTube for international exposure.

The 17-year-old Hilbre High School student said the E! News and host of the pan-American radio show OnAir with Ryan Seacrest had tasked his team to scour the internet for artists from around the world singing cover songs, eventually selected who they considered to be the best.

The first round of the competition saw Bronnie and 12 other hopefuls put their mark on 5 Seconds of Summer’s hit Amnesia, while the second saw her battle it out with seven other successful contestants.

Now, the teenager – who was the only non-American in the final - has been crowned the winner of the competition.

Bronnie, who was also the youngest competitor, won the contest with her simple acoustic driven rework of Amnesia, during which she punches an impassioned high note during the final chorus.

Although she started off with the smallest fan base of the competitors, her popularity grew as the competition progressed.

Her cover song even caught the attention of One Direction's Louis Tomlinson who directed his Twitter followers to vote for Bronnie in the final.

Other admirers of her work included Tom Fletcher of McBusted, and former Liverpool football star Robbie Fowler amongst others.

A delighted Bronnie said: "It feels absolutely amazing, I'm over the moon.

"I didn't think I would even get through to the first round let alone win a world wide contest for the best Amnesia cover song.

"So many people have been voting and supporting me and I'm so thankful. People from the Wirral have been so supportive and that's what I love about the Wirral.

"Even Louis Tomlinson from One Direction has been backing be and supporting me in the contest and even tweeted all of his fans to vote for me which was awesome!

"I've received support from footballers from the likes of Robbie Savage, Robbie Fowler and Neil Mellor.

"I hope to get in contact with the Ryan Seacrest team and hopefully fly over to the US to meet them."
