A BIRKENHEAD man has admitted conning an elderly woman out of tens of thousands of pounds by falsely claiming he had throat cancer.
Terence Dixon pleaded guilty at Liverpool Crown Court to fraud but disputed the amount involved and a hearing is to be held next month to decide the issue.
The court heard that the prosecution claim Dixon cheated the Wallasey woman, now aged 87, out of £17,000 by telling her he needed money for trips to a London hospital and Christies in Manchester.
He pleaded guilty to defrauding the woman between November 1, 2011 and April 15 but maintains it only involved £7,000.
Dixon, 53, of Raffles Road, was further remanded on bail with conditions including signing on at Birkenhead police station three times a week.
