A WIRRAL mum is calling on kindhearted people to help her give her daughter a better future by raising £7,000 to buy a life-changing physiotherapy vest.

Little Savannah-Leigh Walker is always laughing but the brave toddler has been through a lot in her two years on Earth.

After spending her first few months in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, cystic fibrosis (CF) sufferer Savannah-Leigh faces a constant battle against infection.

She struggles to put on weight and needs close to an hour of physio a day in order to reduce the build up of mucus on her lungs and digestive tract.

“The mucus makes it hard for her to breath and mucus in the lungs can turn into infection and scar her lung tissue,” said mum Chrischelle, from Wallasey.

“This causes coughing fits from anything from one minute long to 10 minutes.”

A fundraising appeal has been launched to buy Savannah-Leigh a £7,000 specialist vest which 22-year-old Chrischelle Applin hopes will improve her condition and her future.

She said: “The NHS don’t fund the vest but if we get one, Savannah will only need to have it on for 10 minutes which is much better than and will help to clear the mucus off the chest.

“It will mean there’s less risk of infection, which in turn will help her have a better future and longer life.”

Despite the difficulties Savannah-Leigh has faced, Chrischelle says she always has a smile on her face.

“She’s always laughing and she’s always on the move,” said Chrischelle, who plans to go back to college to study hairdressing soon.

“She doesn’t stop. I can’t believe how happy she is given all that she’s been through in her two years.

“She was very poorly when she was born and was in Alder Hey for a month and a half from being born.”

Chrischelle has set up an account on fundraising website Go Fund Me, on which she has so far raised £75.

“I have saved about £1,000 myself,” said Chrischelle.

“Savannah is not allowed to use the vest until she’s a bit bigger, she’s really small for her age at her current weight.

“I reckon by the time she’s three or four she’ll be at the right weight for the vest which gives me about two years to try and save and fundraise the rest of the £7,000.”
