MOTORISTS were trapped inside the Wallasey tunnel after a collision at the height of rush hour forced emergency services to close the exit.
Emergency services were first made aware of the crash - which involved a car and a motorbike and happened on the exit of the tunnel in Liverpool - shortly before 9am on Thursday.
The occupant was able to get out of the car and was being treated by paramedics at the roadside, but the collision caused the exit slip road to be closed for around an hour.
Vehicles were not allowed entry to the tunnel from Wallasey but those already inside were stuck inside while emergency services worked at the scene.
The motorbike rider managed to escape injury.
Motorists were advised to use the Birkenhead tunnel instead, with the Wallasey tunnel re-opened shortly before 10am.
