THE stories of more than 70 servicemen from Bebington who gave their lives in the Great War are told in a new book by Wirral author Dave Horne.

Lower Bebington's Fallen 1914-19 covers in detail the 73 names listed on the Lower Bebington Memorial in St Andrew's Church, and 37 of these men also appear on the Port Sunlight Memorial.

It uses battalion or regimental war diaries, service and pension records, official archive material, censuses, and local newspaper reports from the period to re-tell each man’s story.

It covers, in great detail, their family background, service history and including an account of how they met their death. Most of the men have their photograph included.

It is the second in a series of books by Dave, and follows his hugely popular Higher Bebington’s Heroes 1914-1919.

Dave said: "The stories include the Davies family who lost four sons in the war; Arthur Margerison, the bandsman who always shared the contents of his parcels from home, and Aaron White the prize winning gardener who won a Military Medal for bravery on the battlefield, but all of these men have their own story to tell.

"I hope these brave men will now be better remembered and appreciated locally."
