A WIRRAL hairdresser has said farewell to her long locks in aid of a Wirral schoolgirl who is always smiling despite her fight with cancer.

South Wirral High School pupil Abbie Major, from Eastham, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the start of the summer.

But the 12-year-old, who is currently having chemotherapy at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, has not let her illness affect her personality and despite losing her hair, has continued to stay positive.

“She is doing really well and she hasn’t complained or cried once,” said Abbie’s cousin, 22-year-old Katie Major, who works at Attitude in Bromborough.

“She’s just getting on with things and is always smiling and always happy.”

On Thursday, Katie was joined by her mum, 42-year-old Nicola, in undergoing a head shave in aid of Alder Hey.

“We just wanted to help her come to terms with losing her hair. With her only being 12 it’s quite hard and it’s a big deal for a young girl to go through.”

Up to now, the duo has raised more than £2,500 but with a few weeks before they have to send the money to Alder Hey, Kate hopes they can raise even more for the charity.

But Katie and Nicola’s fundraising drive does not end there as the duo have organised a charity night in honour of Abbie at the Argyle in Eastham on Saturday, October 4.
