POLICE have issued CCTV footage of a man they would like to speak to following an assault at a bar in Hoylake earlier this year.

Officers were called to Jack Rabbit Slims Barm on Grosvenor Road, at around 2am on May 25 following reports of an assault the previous evening.

A 65-year-old man told police he had been assaulted sometime between 11.30pm and midnight on May 24.

The victim went to hospital where he received treatment for an injury to his lip.

Officers subsequently attended and carried out enquiries, including speaking to potential witnesses.

CCTV from the venue was located and reviewed.

Detective Inspector Rachel Wilson, Wirral CID, said: "This appears to be a violent and unprovoked attack on the victim who was trying to enjoy his night out.

"He was hit in the face so hard he was knocked unconscious and needed treatment in hospital.

"We have been carrying out extensive enquiries and we have now obtained CCTV footage which we believe shows the alleged incident in the premises.

"We think the man highlighted in the footage could have vital information to help with our investigation and I would urge him, or anyone who recognises him, to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

An investigation into the full circumstances surrounding the incident is continuing.
