A WIRRAL factory worker has been recognised for her lifelong dedication to charity.

Alice Cavanagh, who works as an operative at Moreton-based food producer Premier Foods, was named Community Champion at the prestigious Food and Drink Federation (FDF) awards.

The ceremony in London celebrated businesses and industry professionals from across the food and drink supply chain.

As well as working at Cadbury’s cake manufacturing site, Alice is also her site’s lead community and charity champion, co-ordinating all of its activity around charitable giving.

She has been actively fundraising and supporting her community for more than 25 years, passionately supporting a number of local and national organisations both in her role at Premier Foods and in her spare time.

Alice has completed a wealth of both fund raising and awareness activities for Premier Foods’ corporate charity Macmillan this year, as well as for Clatterbridge Hospital Cancer unit, Alder Hey children’s hospital in Liverpool and for St John’s Hospice and Claire House Children’s Hospice, all of which provide care for sick children and adults living with cancer.

As testimony to Alice’s success as a community fund raiser she was asked to carry the Olympic Torch in June 2012 through the streets of Liverpool.

FDF’s director of economic and commercial services Steve Barnes said: “Alice has shown an unflagging commitment to engage, motivate and inspire her colleagues and senior leaders at her site to prioritise and be enthusiastic about charitable giving. We are delighted to award Alice with the FDF Community Champion Award; her personal commitment and endeavours to go the extra mile should be an example to us all.”

Another Premier Foods employee, Alan Walker, also scooped the “Food and Drink Scientist of the Year” award.
