TV funnyman Charlie Higson was not shaken or stirred during a visit to Wirral school to promote his latest book.

Charlie Higson, author of the phenomenally successful Young Bond series of books, as well as co-creator of TV’s The Fast Show and Bellamy’s People, read excerpts from the latest in his series of teen zombie novels, The Hunted at Oldershaw Academy in Wallasey.

The event was organised by Wirral Council’s Libraries service.

Higson's horror series focuses on a plague that turns everyone over the age of 14 into a ravenous zombie. The latest edition is the penultimate in the series.

Almost 500 pupils from secondary schools across Wirral listened to excerpts from the novel, asking questions and having copies of their books signed.

Cllr Chris Meaden, cabinet member for leisure, sport and culture said: "In recent years Wirral libraries have arranged visits from successful authors including Julia Donaldson, Michelle Paver and Cathy Cassidy.

"These visits bring literature to life for young people, giving them the opportunity to hear their favourite books narrated by the writers themselves, and to ask questions about the writing and creative process."

Charlie Higson's Young Bond series has more than a million copies in the UK alone, and been translated into more than 20 different languages.

His comedy career including appearances on The Harry Enfield Television Show, The Fast Show, Shooting Stars and The Smell of Reeves & Mortimer. He is also a writer for the award-winning radio series Down the Line.
