A WIRRAL mum will be joined by her 67-year-old mother-in-law when she jumps out of a plane from the dizzying heights of 10,000 ft to raise funds for a charity close to her heart.

Michelle Finnigan, from New Brighton, has signed up to complete the tandem skydive in Lancaster this month to raise cash for the charity that looked after her daughter Grace during some of the most difficult periods of her life so far.

Wirral Globe:
One-year-old Grace is being treated at Alder Hey.

Grace was diagnosed with rare disease Langerhan’s Cell Histiocytosis just before her first birthday and is now undergoing weekly chemotherapy at Alder Hey Hospital’s oncology unit.

“She has got tumours on her lungs – it’s not cancer but it is treated like cancer,” explained 41-year-old Michelle.

“Grace is coping really well with everything, she’s brilliant and she’s amazing.”

Michelle and mother-in-law Carol hope to give something back to Alder Hey and hope to say a massive “thank you” for all their help and support during Grace’s illness.

“We feel compelled to raise as much money as possible for the oncology unit in an effort to show our gratitude for the excellent care that Grace has received,” said Michelle, who came up with the idea of a tandem skydive after seeing a poster in Alder Hey.

“I just couldn’t think of any other way of raising the money – we just want to raise as much as we can.”

Michelle says 12-month-old Grace is coping well with her illness.

Michelle and Grace will be supported by family and friends when they tackle the skydive on September 29.

A charity night will take place in aid of Alder Hey at Wirral Ladies Golf Club on October 18.
