A WIRRAL student is among the cast of a show based on William Golding’s classic tale of Lord Of The Flies at Liverpool’s Empire Theatre next week.

Felipe Pacheco plays Wilfred in New Adventures and Re:Bourne's production, which opens at the Empire on Wednesday September 10. Its run ends on Saturday, September 13.

In the story, a group of schoolboys find themselves abandoned. With no adults around they start to make their own rules and create their own civilisation, before order breaks down and the story builds to an electrifying climax. The tale made the leap from page to silver screen, with film versions made in 1963 and 2012.

Looking forward to taking part in the stage show, Calday Grange Grammar student Felipes – one of 32 dancers in the young cast of Merseyside performers - told the Globe today: "For anyone who has read the story and seen the film, this production has a twist. It's not set on an island, it's set in an actual theatre space."

The 17-year-old from Heswall, who is also a member of Wirral’s Off The Ground Theatre company, added: "I’ve done a lot of shows, but never done dance before, so it’s nice to have the opportunity to take part in this production.

"It’s definitely more physical than anything I’ve done before, with long days and intensive rehearsals."

The production, choreographed by Olivier-nominated Scott Ambler, has been adapted and directed for the stage by Matthew Bourne, whose acclaimed production of Swan Lake begins a world tour this week.

It is supported by Arts Council England and Arts Council of Wales in addition to other major trusts and donors. Re:Bourne is the charitable arm of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures. Founded in 2008 the charity delivers projects, training, courses and productions to find, develop and inspire the next generation of dance-theatre professionals.

Looking to the future, Felipes said: “I’d like to have some career in entertainment and would like to go to drama school or university.

“Shows like this give you a taste of how demanding professional theatre can be.”
