A PENSIONER accused of possessing more than 4,000 indecent images of children has appeared in court.

James Marland, of Alfred Road, Prenton, denied downloading the images – which range from category A to category C – when he appeared before Wirral magistrates on Wednesday afternoon.

The 68-year-old faces eight charges of downloading indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of a child and three of possessing indecent photographs.

The charges relate to dates between August 2007 and November 2012.

In total, Marland is accused of possessing 4,468 indecent images.

He will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on January 2.

Marland – who indicated a not guilty plea - remains on conditional bail and must not have any unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16.
