Police are urging caution after a large quantity of prescription drugs was stolen from a pharmacy in Rock Ferry.

Officers were called to Dale Pharmacy, Bebington Road, on Saturday morning following a report that the shop had been burgled.

Large quantites of painkillers, ritalin, methadone in liquid, tablet and ampule form, and morphine tablets were stolen

The shop is being examined for forensic evidence and CCTV from the area is being located and reviewed.

Inspector Georgie Minnery said: "Taking any medication which hasn't been properly prescribed for you by a doctor can be dangerous and can even prove fatal.

"Furthermore, many of the items which were stolen during the incident had passed their use-by dates and expired, heightening those dangers still further.

"If anyone finds any of the medication, they should hand it in immediately to any pharmacy or police station.

"I would also appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area overnight, or has any information which could help us with our inquiries, to come forward."

Anyone with information should call Birkenhead police on the 101 number or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
