DRIVERS using the M53 this afternoon are facing delays after a car overturned and went down an embankment.

Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway, just before junction five for Eastham, at 1.35pm today.

A spokesman for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said two appliances are currently in attendance, as well as the Search and Rescue team, standard practice for collisions.

Firefighters are currently using hydraulic cutting equipment to free the occupier from the car.

One lane is closed southbound between junction four for Bebington and junction five for Eastham.

Traffic is affected heading towards Ellesmere Port but is said to be coping well.

It is not yet known if anyone has been seriously injured.
