DETECTIVES are appealing for the public’s help after a woman was sexually assaulted in Wallasey in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police were called to the junction of Canterbury Road and Poulton Road following a report of sexual assault.

The victim had been walking along street when a man approached her and touch her inappropriately, before making off on foot.

Police attended and found the woman uninjured but very upset following the incident.

Patrols in the area were stepped up in an effort to identify the person responsible.

Specially trained officers from the force’s Unity Team are now investigating the incident with CCTV from the area being checked and house-to-house enquires being made.

The man wanted by police is described as white, in his late 20s to early 30s with a tanned face and very skinny build. He has brown eyes, dark hair and wore a tracksuit and cap at the time of the incident.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and speak to police.

Detective Constable Sharon West, said: "This has been a devastating ordeal for the victim who is now being supported by specially-trained officers during this difficult time.

"I would like to reassure the local community that incidents of this nature are rare and officers are now working to identify the person responsible and bring him to justice.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and saw anyone matching the description acting suspiciously to call police.

"Your information could be really important in helping us identify the offender.
