ROVERS boss Rob Edwards says he saw positives in Tranmere's 1-0 defeat against Champioship side Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup.

Tranmere put in a spirited display, hitting the woodwork through Danny Woodards in the second half.

The visitors were reduced to ten men seven minutes after the restart, after Michael Mancienne was shown his second yellow card of the game for a foul on Jason Koumas.

Rovers then began to press Forest and came inches from an equaliser on 63 minutes when Danny Woodards powered a header against the post from Matt Gill's cross.

It was a performance that pleased the manager.

Edwards said: "I enjoyed the game more than I enjoyed Saturday's but I'm more disappointed - which is the crazy world of football management.

"I'm disappointed because I thought we had a chance.

"They had good possession of the ball and we'd sort of worked out what they wanted to do and that they were going to try to do it even more and we thought we had a good chance of scoring the next goal.

"With the Forest player being sent off we had lots of the ball and a couple of chances and a couple of half chances.

"The players got themselves going tonight. The team looked together and it was an encouraging night.

"We lost and I don't like losing and the players are frustrated but we've got lots of football ahead.

"There weren't the nerves that were there on Saturday."

A late stoppage time goal earned Rovers a point in their first League Two match of the new season against York City.

Edwards admitted nerves got the better of some of his squad in the 1-1 draw.

Rovers are away to Shrewsbury Town this Saturday.
