THE family of a teenager diagnosed with terminal cancer has organised a fundraising night to thank hospital staff for his treatment.

Taking place at the Regency Suite in Manor Road, Liscard, on Saturday, August 16, it has all been organised in honour of James Wright, from Formby.

The 16-year-old was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2012 and has since had three operations at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool to try to remove it.

But he now has two tumours on his brain and the disease has spread to his spine and James' family has been told he has around three months to live.

Saturday's fundraising event was planned by his Wallasey-based auntie Carol Smith and other family members.

On the night there will be entertainment from Merseyside band Hey Pedro and DJ. There will also be a raffle.

Proceeds will be split between Alder Hey Hospital and MacMillan cancer charity.

Looking forward to the event, Carol Smith told the Globe: "We're raising funds to help make James's life a little bit more comfortable as he deals with the pain caused by his illness.

"Because the cancer has spread to his spine, James is wheelchair-bound, but he is able to get out and about and do things. But he’s now got three tumours and they are really aggressive.

"We're raising funds for Alder Hey, to say thanks to the staff. They have done all they can to help James.

"He also has learning difficulties and is really excited about going to the fundraiser because, as he says, he will be the big attraction.

"We're hoping to raise around £2,500 on Saturday. We only came up with the idea for a fundraising night 12 days ago.

"So there's been a little bit of pressure, but we're hoping as many people as possible come along on the night and make it a huge success.

"We have got plans for a bigger event in the future."
