A TRANSGENDER woman was assaulted as she made her way home from Liverpool.
Ryan Anthony Kenny, of Bridge Street, Birkenhead, appeared before Wirral magistrates on Tuesday where he was charged with assaulting the woman and stealing a carrier bag containing her personal items.
The 20-year-old is accused of carrying out the assault on March 3.
Magistrates heard that the alleged victim had just left a transgender support group in Liverpool and was on her way to a nearby taxi rank on Skelhorne Street in Liverpool city centre when she approached by two men – one of whom is said to have been Kenny.
He is accused of hitting the victim across the face numerous times with her wig, before punching her twice in the face.
Kenny is then accused of taking a carrier bag she was carrying, which contained a number of items of an unknown value.
Kenny did not enter a plea to the charges and will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing on December 2.
