A WOULD-be-robber was foiled by a customer as he threatened a Wirral shop worker with a knife.
Police were called to the News Plus newsagents on Trafalgar Road, Wallasey at around 5.45pm on Saturday following reports that a man had entered the shop armed with a large blade.
Detectives have released CCTV stills of the man – who threatened a female member of staff and demanded money.
But the robber had not bet on being stopped by a gallant customer – who intervened and pulled him away from the shop worker.
The offender fled the scene, driving away in a Fiat Punto.
A similar vehicle was later seen on Toronto Road by officers and two men made off from the vehicle.
The car has been seized for forensic examination.
Detective Sergeant John Christiansen said: "Although nothing was stolen, this was an extremely frightening attack on the staff member and we are keen to hear from anyone who recognises this man.”
Anyone with information should call Wirral CID on 0151 777 2262 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
