THE annual search is on to find Wirral’s Top of the Plots.

Birkenhead Park hosts the ninth annual Wirral Flower and Vegetable Show on August 10.

Judges will cast their eyes over dozens of entrants for categories from A plate of plain scones to three stems of hybrid tea roses.

Organisers are calling for applicants from Wirral’s allotment holders and private growers.

The best allotment site will be rewarded with a shield, while top allotment holders will vie for a cash prize.

Entries must be received before 5pm on the August 9.

As well as flowers and vegetables, there are categories for jams, chutneys, cakes, honey and for young growers. On the day there will be two large marquees with craft stalls and other attractions.

Cllr Chris Meaden, cabinet member for leisure, sport and culture said: “Birkenhead Park is a fantastic venue for this year’s Wirral Flower and Vegetable Show.

"Every year we see more and more people get involved in ‘growing their own’, and organic and sustainable food is more popular than ever.

“The health of our local food economy is also really important for tackling health inequalities and for increasing people’s understanding of where their food is produced or sourced from.”
