A ROYAL Navy chef from Wirral has been praised for his achievements after training at the Defence Maritime Logistics School.

Chef Liam Mullacky was presented with the Robin Hodsdon apprenticeship prize at the school’s annual award ceremony at HMS Raleigh.

The accolade is awarded to the student who demonstrated the most development in order to achieve an apprenticeship.

The 20-year-old from New Brighton joined the Navy last year and undertook a seven-month course at the school to learn his trade as a chef.

The training leads to a recognised qualification in the form of apprenticeship in professional cookery.

On his success, Liam said: "The highlight of my career so far has been passing through training. I am very grateful for this award and very proud to be serving in the Royal Navy."

The former pupil of Mosslands School in Wallasey is now putting his new skills into practice on board the helicopter carrier HMS Illustrious.

He is part of a team delivering three nutritious meals a day to the Ship’s crew and embarked forces which could be up to 1,000 people.

Although based at HMS Raleigh, the DMLS is part of the wider Defence College of Logistics, policing and administration and provides training to all officers and ratings of the logistics specialisation including catering services, supply chain and personnel administration.
