Wirral’s Longbow Events has been chosen to partner with the National Trust and Sports England to encourage people to get sporty this summer.

Newly launched Longbow Events is putting on a series of events at Speke Hall next month to give people of all ages the chance to be an archer for the day.

Longbow Events is part of The Longbow Shop, the UK’s largest traditional archery retailer. The company has supplied arrows for acclaimed BBC series such as The White Queen along with Shakespeare productions at the Globe Theatre in London.

Longbow Events offers a range of archery-based activities catering for individuals, schools, community groups, private parties and businesses.

Speke’s summer sports calendar of events kicks off on Tuesday, July 29 with opportunities for families to try archery as well as other sports including orienteering, cycling, running, football and volleyball.

Longbow Events will be bringing along new and fun ways to take part in archery, including Hoverball, an inflatable archery range; Archery Tag, a safe, combat archery sport that can be played indoors or outdoors; and a chance to shoot the famous English Longbow.

Jason Powell of Longbow Events said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the National Trust to launch Longbow Events at Speke Hall and to help make archery available to people of all ages from the age of eight to 80.

“An increasing number of people are giving archery a go. For some it is their downtime, a chance to empty the mind, while for others it is the appeal of the hunter-gatherer, the heritage and the sheer romanticism of traditional archery.”

Rob Joules, National Sports Partnership Manager for the National Trust said: “We want to help everyone make the most of the incredible open air spaces at our properties – and one of the best ways to enjoy the great outdoors is through sport.

“The particular emphasis of our partnership with Sport England is the 'entry level' end of sports participation rather than competitive sport which means everyone can have a go – even if you’re a complete beginner.”
