A SMASH-Hit West End musical directed by the man behind pop megastar Kylie Minogue's shows comes to New Brighton later this year.

The tale of a fictional drag queen band, Viva La Drag! will be staged at the Floral Pavilion on October 24.

Directed by William Baker and produced by Michael Taylor, the show features music by former Culture Club lead singer Boy George.

The musical charts the rise from rags to riches of the Supreme Fabulettes. The group’s razor-tongued manager, played by Miss Sheila Simmonds, navigates band splits and solo hits, against a backdrop of backstabbing, love and tears.

The show is played for laughs by four of the UK’s top drag artistes: Vicki Vivacious, Vanilla Lush, Portia De Fosse and Silver Summers.

Combining sweet harmonies, wondrous costumes, ripped eye candy, cutting-edge variety plus special guest Sam Buttery, Viva la Drag! promises to be "a night of glitz, hits, fun and kitsch".

Looking forward to bringing the show to Wirral, producer Michael Taylor said: "It's the stage show sensation everyone’s talking about.

"Drag queens are a time-honoured tradition and the production brings the art form into the 21st century, courtesy of a show that features amazing harmonies by very talented singers performing today’s chart toppers along with classic hits.

"With more hits than any other production, it’s a rollicking night of cross-dressing comedy and musical theatre.

"Viva la Drag! is a party night favourite with girls and guys alike. It’s perfect entertainment for whatever you’re celebrating – hen nights, anniversaries, birthdays even divorces.

"As well as the Kylie connection and Boy George’s involvement it also stars Sam Buttery of BBC1's The Voice and benefits from musical direction from the songwriter of number one hits by the Sugarbabes, Emma Bunton and Kylie.

"Vocals are by the arranger to Girls Aloud and Danni Minogue, while costumes are the brainchild of the designer for Kylie’s famed world tours."

The show features Glee-style mash-ups of hit songs like Single Ladies, Baby Love, Car Wash, Rolling in the Deep, I’m Every Woman, We Are Family and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Tickets are from the box office on 0151 666 0000 or www.floralpavilion.com
