FIREFIGHTERS have tackled a blaze involving part of a former nursing home in Rock Ferry.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service was called to Egerton park at around 4.28am today, Tuesday.

The fire involved part of the ground floor of the three-storey detached building.

Four fire engines were needed to put out the flames, which were extinguished by 5.17am.

Firefighters also used a nine metre ladder to check for signs the fire had spread in the structure.

Two rooms on the ground floor of the building were severely damaged by fire. The remainder of the property was mildly damaged by smoke.

No one is believed to have been injured.

Firefighters had left the scene by 6.16am.
