A MAN has been arrested after a police officer was threatened with a chainsaw as he responded to reports of a disturbance in Neston.

Officers arrived at Park Street at around 9.15pm on Sunday where they found a man with minor injuries.

While at the scene, another man tried to assault the injured man and also threatened a police officer with a chainsaw.

The injured man and the officer retreated to a place of safety and the chainsaw wielding man fled the scene in a vehicle.

A thorough search of the area was carried out and a short time later, officers located and arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with the incident.

He remains in custody at this time.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information, which could assist officers with their enquiries, is urged to get in touch.

“Officers are particularly keen to speak to a cyclist who was in the area at the time the man fled the scene and also the occupants of a white car who were also in the area around the time of the incident.”
