A WIRRAL teenager has raised more than £100 for Claire House after cycling through the Birkenhead tunnel in her specially adapted wheelchair trike.

Seventeen-year-old Leah Hardman, from Wallasey, rode through Queensway on Sunday as part of the Liverpool to Chester bikeathon.

The Foxfield School pupil, who has cerebral palsy and cannot see, walk, or talk, was joined by her mum Debbie and her husband Preston.

Proud mum Debbie said: “Leah wanted to raise money for Claire House. She doesn’t go there but all of her little friends do and she wanted to raise money for them and their mums.

“Leah is very quiet but everyone that meets her absolutely loves her – she’s got the most amazing personality.”

Debbie added: “Everyone was taking photographs of her and her adapted trike on Sunday. They were all saying, ‘Look at her bike’ as it’s something you don’t see.”

The £100 has been raised thanks to donations from Leah’s friends, family and teachers at school, who Debbie said have been absolutely amazing.

She added: “One of the kids at Claire House is expected to go to heaven today. It’s such a lovely place. Every single day is a blessing.”

The trio set off through the Birkenhead tunnel from Liverpool at 9.30am on Sunday.

After making it to Wirral, they cycled back to Liverpool where they were met by Claire Bear.
