A CANNABIS farm capable of yielding up to £150,000 worth of drugs has been discovered in Birkenhead.

Officers executed a warrant at a property on Whetstone Lane at around 12.05pm on Friday.

Once inside, they found 148 cannabis plants at various stages of growth spread across four rooms.

It is understood the plants are capable of yielding up to £150,000 worth of drugs.

Officers from the force's Matrix Serious Organised Crime Cannabis Dismantling Team have launched an investigation following the cannabis farm’s discovery.

Following the discovery, Neighbourhood Inspector for Birkenhead, Duncan Swan, said: "I want to take this opportunity to reassure people across Birkenhead that we will be relentless in our efforts to crackdown on any form of drug dealing or drug supply.

"Cannabis farms can be found anywhere and I would appeal to people to be vigilant and call us if they notice any suspicious activity or believe cannabis is being grown in their area.

"You may notice a number of people you don't recognise regularly visiting a particular house or a strange smell coming from a property.  These can be tell-tale signs there may be a cannabis farm inside.

"Cannabis is a dangerous drug and we will not tolerate its production in our communities.  We will act on all the information that we receive."

  • Anyone with information should call officers via the non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
