A MAN was assaulted by a group of teenagers as he walked along a Moreton street.

Detectives from Wirral CID are appealing for information following the incident which happend on Pasture Road on May 7, although details have only recently be relased.

Police were called to Westway just after 9pm following reports that a 48-year-old man had been assaulted by the six-strong gang.

It is believed he was walking along the road when one male approached him and attacked him.

He was then knocked to the ground and assaulted by the other people in the group before they made off on foot.

The victim suffered injuries to his nose and eye but did not require hospital treatment.

An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is underway and enquiries are ongoing, with CCTV from the area being checked.

Detective Jackie Cleaver, said: "This was a nasty assault on a man by a group of young people believed to be teenagers.

"The assault took place close to the health centre on Pasture Road and it is possible someone driving past saw something.

"I would appeal to anyone with information to come forward as the information you provide could really help our enquiries.

"In particular I am very keen to speak to a couple who are believed to have witnessed the incident.

"I would ask these two people to call detectives as you could have some very important information."
