TRANMERE midfielder Joe Thompson has taken to Twitter to announce he has been given the all clear following his battle with cancer.

The Rovers star was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in November after a number of medical tests.

But after six months of chemotherapy, 25-year-old Thompson took to Twitter this afternoon to share the news with his fans that he is in complete remission.

He wrote: “Complete remission. Two simple words. Just given the all clear off my professor. Can’t wait to get back out on the football pitch.”

The former Rochdale player refused to let his illness hold him back and fought hard to raise awareness for cancer charities, sparking the “Grow 4 Joe” campaign.

Footballs stars from across the country backed Thompson’s plight, growing their hair and beards in an attempt to raise money for charity.
