A 25-YEAR-OLD man has been taken to hospital with neck injuries following a four-vehicle collision in Bromborough this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the southbound stretch of New Chester Road at around 1pm, following reports of an incident involving a Ford transit van, VW Golf, Ford Mondeo Ghia and Citroen Xsara Picasso.

The drivers of all four vehicles sustained slight injuries, but the passenger in the Golf was taken by air ambulance to hospital with neck injuries.

The occupants of the other vehicles had freed themselves by the time firefighters arrived.

Two men, believed to be in their 50s and a woman, also believed to be in her 50s, were assessed at the scene by paramedics.

Crews from West Kirby and Bromborough fire stations attended along with the MF&RS Search and Rescue Team. Firefighters were there for just over an hour.

The accident happened near to Carlett Park. Four lanes of the A41 between Allport Road and Heygarth road were closed for a time by a crash near Plymyard playing fields.

Traffic was diverted around the area but a Birkenhead-bound lane was opened after about half an hour. The four lanes have now been completely re-opened.
