A WIRRAL children’s charity hopes to raise a sweet £20,000 with its latest fundraising initiative.

The Claire House Cookie Club asks supporters to bake, make and decorate cookies to sell to family, friends and colleagues in the hope of raising plenty of dough for the children’s hospice, which provides respite and care for children and young people with life limited medical conditions from across Wirral and beyond.

The bespoke fundraising pack, which supporters can apply for through the charity’s website, features children and families who access the services of the hospice including four-year-old George Johnson from Wallasey and three-year-old Luke Campbell from Heswall.

Brave George has spent most of his short life travelling back and forth to London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital where he has undergone 75 operations for the undiagnosed condition that affects his digestive system.

When at home in Wirral, George – who has to be fed via a tube through his heart – spends time at Claire House.

He is often joined by Luke, who has been told he may not live to see his fourth birthday after his rare heart conditioned worsened.

The cookie appeal is being sponsored by Hickory’s Smokehouse, who have restaurants in West Kirby, Chester and North Wales.

Kirsty Simpson, events manager at Claire House, said: “Everyone has a sweet tooth and what better way to indulge it than the Claire House Cookie Club.

“It’s a really simple, super-fun way to support your local children’s hospice and you can get involved at school, in your office or even selling cookies to your neighbours.”

The charity is encouraging people to hold their cookie sale between July 7 and 13 so there is plenty of time to practice your favourite recipes and promote your event.

Kirsty added:  “We wanted to create a campaign that was fun and easy and as many of our supporters as possible could get involved in.

“So whether it’s at home, at school or in the office, roll your sleeves up and get baking because every penny you raise will support local families in your area who really need your support.”
